Painted Relief 1

Relief (detail), colored and black newsprint, muslin, plaster, (36.5 x 25.5 x 12) 1999

Exhibition: “Artist at Work,” New Century Gallery, NY, NY,  2001

In teaching art to children, I shared the techniques and an artist’s  way of thinking. I decided, “Why not use the paper-mache techniques I taught the kids?” This work includes colored newsprint (no paint), draped and stiffened fabric and plaster…(the volumes evoke a fragment of a Dominican Republic landscape).
